Graduations

Oldest daughter graduates high school this year, and the search is already on for THE dress. She asked me to look on e-bay for the ones that have store quantities and see what was there, and she really likes this dress (in a lovely burgandy colour): and I was wondering, while the feedback reports seem really good on this seller, do you have any advice or suggestions? We have time, and a couple of her friends have expressed interest in this route as well, so if we do this, we may have to order a few dresses, and would likely do them all at the same time.

The little cat is due to arrive next week, and it looks like his name is going to be Miles. DD thought Milo, but one of her friends had used that name and she didn't want to copy, so she adjusted to Miles. Of course younger DD insists that she doesn't like that name and will call him Smiles. I'm sure all names will be better than what I call him when he starts his scratching phase, as he seems to be just the right age to be trouble.

And now I am off to get my hair cut and permed. I am tired of hanging hair, and when I got an appointment with the hair dresser for my birthday, I decided to take advantage of it.

Comments:
Do they wear dresses like that under the graduation gown these days?? I'm sure we wore something a tad more sensible.. I can't even remember what it was!

BUt that was twenty some years ago..

You'll look beautiful with your new do! Yay!

As for the dress, I'm as perplexed at mom2 is...why so fancy? Is this for a prom or a graduation dance type thing..or just for under the commencement gown?

Lots of kids are going the online route these days. I almost did it for a bridesmaids dress that we found in a store, but a local store did pricematching, so we just got it locally.

What they said above. I don't even remember what my kid wore under her gown.

That said - the dress is lovely and the style seems like one that does not require total fitting precision. That's the big drawback to buying a special dress that you haven't tried on.

Do you sew? Can you make any alterations it might need?

I have no e-bay advice, but I love that dress!

Miles will bring more than his share of smiles, I'm sure.

*waits to get new 'do news*

I graduated in the 80's. Our choices were Gunney Saks (sp) and that was about it. *makes face* I hated my stupid dress. Course, I'm a lesbian and hate most dresses. Unless they are on someone else. That dress over there is purty though. :)

Hey! I was married in a Gunny Saks!

I think Jessica McClintock made Gunny Sacks dresses. Most looked like Prairie skirts.

The dress is beautiful and will look gorgeous in burgandy. I suppose this is for Prom?

Ooooh...your hairdo is divine!

They only wear the grad gown for the ceremony. The dress is for the grad supper and dance, so the dress is apparently a big thing.

When I graduated my mom made my dress, a pink a-line satin with silver trim around the neck. DD actually has it in her closet, as mom had kept it all those years.

And I can make alterations, as long as going bigger anywhere is not an option. Smaller or tighter I could cope with.

That looks like a good choice, attractive and forgiving fit (which is important when ordering online)

Such a beautiful dress!

I like both names of Miles and Smiles. I'm sure with time, the name will change yet again.

Okay, I just googled Gunne Sax, which I wore plenty of in my day.. (I even SEWED some of them thar Prairie skirts, Carey...) and they don't make Prairie Skirts no more.

Some of my fav memories of my mom are learning to sew from her, and planning out dresses we'd make. I wore one for Jr High graduation in 1982, but I have no clue what I wore at HS Grad...I'll have to dig out photos!

That's a pretty dress. I hope you can find what you need.

My mom taught me to sew too, though it was not one of my favourite things. There was many a tearful Saturday morning in Cecil Lake, let me tell you.

That is a pretty dress. I remember my dress. I loved it, but it was covered by a gown.

I like Miles. I actually like it better than Milo.
