I Hope You're Warm
It is 3 degrees C here. That is about 36F. That is cold. And it is raining and has been for the last two days. I have the heat on in the house and the weather report says it will likely turn to snow through the night. The only good news is that is will probably not stay. It snowed about 4 inches in the mountains last night. I.am.not.ready.for.this. I want more summer, or at least a warm fall.
Because of the rains, DH has been home with me for the last few days. By at home, I mean under my feet. Having sent him off to town just now for onions, celery and puddings, I am running out of things for him to do. It's not that it's bad, having him home, it's just that when you are not used to it, and have a particular routine you sort of follow for each day, you find yourself getting annoyed when someone else interferes with it.
The kids bought themselves a huge bag of shrimp to eat while they watched a movie the other night. They ended up not eating it, so now I have to do something with the shrimp. I am thinking a white sauce with shrimp over penne pasta, but I need some onions and celery, which should be here soon. Cold weather makes me cook way too much. So far this week I have made bread (8 loaves)and minestroni soup. Anyone else got any good cold weather foods?

When it gets cold I roast vegetables. Little baby potatoes with scallions and zucchini squash and bell peppers and eggplant and mushrooms and tiny tomatoes and split green beans, all tossed together with minced garlic and olive oil and whatever fresh spice I can scrounge up. Today it will be mostly rosemary.
My husband is of the opinion that he is the center of the world. And on weekends that's okay with me. But if he ever retires there will have to be a whole lot of remedial husband training happen.

I know what you mean about husbands being underfoot. My friend and I decided that when our husbands retire, we'll have them set up a new business together to keep busy.
Cold weather food? When it gets cold here (about 50 degrees F), I eat in an indoor restaurant instead of an outdoor restaurant. It was about 75 degrees today.

Potato soup in bread bowls is yummy on cold days. That's when I know it's winter. Because we eat the soup in a bowl a lot more than usual.
Cream of broccoli is yummy too.

Pot roast or chili in the crock pot are my all time favorite cold weather foods.
If my hubby retires, I will kill him! Either that or I will be working a lot more so I can get the hell away from him. *grin*

Must be terrible to have a bag of shrimp to HAVE to cook. :-)
I made chili on Saturday. It's the BEST cold weather food!

We're supposed to frost tonight, Sez. I had to bring in my last outdoor houseplant - a huge Boston fern.
I miss summer already.
